New Year
The New Year takes place in different cultures and different countries following different calendars sometime either based on lunar calendars or solar calendars. The first of January is the official day of New Year in the Georgian Calendar. This date is accepted by most of the countries for their New Year celebrations. Some of the countries have declared the first of January as a national holiday.
Different cultures follow different New Years. The Chinese, for example, have their new year on the new moon during the first lunar month which is usually within four to eight weeks before the coming of spring. It is often referred to as the lunar New Year. The period is usually between the 21st of January and the 21st of February. The different regions in India have their different ‘New Year’s which is called as the ‘Nava Varsha’ somewhere between March and April. The Assyrian New Year which is known as the ‘Rish Nissanu’ is celebrated on the first of April. So, although the New Year in different countries takes place in different times, the celebration of this occasion takes place in most countries. The other thing that is common across cultures is that flowers play an important role in the celebrations.
